Differences in Drapery Linings and Their Purposes

Interlining is a flannel fabric that is placed between the face fabric and the lining. It adds insulation and gives curtains a much higher-end full and luxurious look.

Blackout Lining- Aside from the obvious, which is to keep all light out of your room, it also serves another purpose.  It gives your fabric a very sleek look when hanging. The heaviness of the blackout lining weighs down the fabric. Best if used with a plain lining on the outside.

With so many linings to choose from, you might even be wondering if lining is necessary. So here is a list of reasons you may want to consider lining your fabulous panels.

  • Makes curtains look full (less skimpy).
  • Curtains look more professional.
  • Puts a barrier between the face fabric and the sun.
  • Extends the life of the face fabric.
  • Gives windows continuity from the outside, rather than seeing different face fabrics in each window.
  • Insulates from heat. I live in Florida and let me tell you, I lined my panels with dim out and the three months after I arrived. I’ve saved almost 30 % on my power bill.
  • Insulates from cold.
  • Insulates from noise.
